How to stay motivated for the long-haul
Coachees often come to me frustrated that they are not getting the results they want. They’re working hard but the promotions aren’t happening, or their businesses aren’t growing. I’ve been there too and I totally get how frustrating it is.
The worst thing that can happen is we become so disappointed we’re not getting the results that we lose confidence, become disengaged, and then our work starts to suffer as a result. Left unchecked it can lead to one of those nasty downward spirals.
So how do we stay motivated?
Well, Beyoncé wasn’t built in a day, as they say.
The key to staying motivated for the long-haul is to focus on the process not on the outcome. It’s about enjoying the actual doing of the work – writing the blog posts, running the workshops, or talking with clients.
We need to see each experience as a learning opportunity and grow with it. We have to train our thoughts to stay in the here and now and trust that the results will come.
So, once you’ve set your goals, use your energy for giving it all to that next small step. Don’t waste it on worrying about if and when you’ll get to the end result.
P.S. There’s science to back this up too – check out this Marie Forleo video to find out more.
